alzheimer's disease; eeg; epilepsy; machine learning; mesial temporal lobe seizures; neuronal hyperexcitability; seizure detection Dr. Lam's research program explores the interface between epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, and cognition, using a combination of neurophysiology (scalp EEG and intracranial recordings), neuro-imaging (fMRI, PET), and cognitive outcomes.  Our lab is also developing new methods for detecting epilepsy and other forms of abnormal brain electrical activity in people with Alzheimer’s disease, using artificial intelligence approaches.  Overall, this work will lead to a better understanding of the role of epilepsy in Alzheimer’s disease and will be critical for understanding whether treatment of epilepsy can slow or prevent memory loss in people with Alzheimer’s disease.
