Aaron Aguirre is an attending cardiologist and critical care physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his doctoral degree in electrical and biomedical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He trained in internal medicine, cardiology, and critical care at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. 

Dr. Aguirre's laboratory is part of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine and the Center for Systems Biology at MGH, and is closely affiliated with the MGH Cardiovascular Research Center. The lab develops and applies innovative molecular imaging and advanced microscopy technologies to investigate the pathophysiology of myocardial infarction, heart failure, and circulatory shock. The lab has pioneered the use of cardiac intravital microscopy to study the beating heart at cellular resolution in animal models and has explored multiple applications of this technology. 

In addition, Dr. Aguirre's lab studies acute decompensated heart failure and shock in human patients using data from the cardiac intensive care units at the MGH. The team works in collaboration with investigators at the MGH Clinical Data Animation Center and at MIT on projects aimed at developing novel clinical diagnostics and predictive analytics for circulatory shock and cardiac arrest.

Dr. Aguirre is also a clinical affiliate of the MGH Healthcare Transformation Lab, where he leads projects involving the development of new digital health tools and medical device technologies for use in the intensive care unit.
