He then attended the University of Michigan for Internal Medicine Residency, during which time he was awarded an NIH research fellowship. Jay also completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the Mass General. Jay grew up in Buffalo, NY and remains an avid Sabres and Bills fan.
