My primary research interests are related to viral hepatitis including hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and hepatitis B virus (HBV) in special populations. I have the following primary areas of focus:

1. HCV in special populations, including coinfection with HIV-1 and acute HCV.  My interests are in cell-mediated immunity and HCV viral evolution in collaboration with Georg Lauer, Todd Allen

2. Treatment of acute HCV and currently serving as chair of A5380 -a Phase IIb trial of 4 weeks of Glecaprevir/Pibrentasvir for Acute Hepatitis C Virus Infection (PURGE-C) https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT04042740

3. Immunogenetics of HCV infection, in collaboration with Georg Lauer, Hailing Huang of the Broad Institute, Drs. Priya Duggal and Canderlaria Coggliano at Hopkins and Todd Hulgan at Vanderbilt.

4. Together with Georg Lauer, Michael Mansour, building a repository of human PBMC / tissue that examines topics ranging from viral hepatitis to immunomodulation including the PD-1 axis.
