Her group was the lead site for the first randomized controlled trial of CBT in schizophrenia published in the United States. She has authored several manualized treatment protocols for increasing readiness to quit smoking, smoking cessation, and smoking relapse prevention that are based on cognitive-behavioral and motivational enhancement principles for smokers with severe mental illness diagnoses and has trained interventionists across the US to deliver these treatments with high fidelity to the model.
