Dr. Wendy Macias-Konstantopoulos, MD, MPH, is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos completed a Global Health Leadership Fellowship at MGH and graduated with a degree in Population and International Health from Harvard School of Public Health. She is Director of the Human Trafficking Initiative, a core program of the MGH Emergency Department's (ED) Division of Global Health & Human Rights and founding Medical and Executive Director of the MGH Freedom Clinic, an innovative primary and preventative health care clinic for human trafficking victims and survivors that won the 2014 Partnership for Freedom national competition.

Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos is particularly interested in public health interventions that address social determinants of disease and improve the health and well-being of underserved populations. She was site PI for a large NIH-funded randomized controlled trial of an ED-based brief intervention for substance use, and is active with current hospital efforts to reduce the unmet substance use treatment needs of ED and Freedom Clinic patients. Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos also serves as Medical Director of the MGH Violence Intervention and Advocacy Program for patients who are affected by community violence.

In addition, she has served as Chair of the Massachusetts Medical Society's Committee on Violence Intervention and Prevention since 2013. She is also active in policy advocacy efforts as a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians' Public Health and Injury Prevention Committee, and specifically on behalf of trafficked individuals as a member of the SOAR National Technical Working Group at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
