I am an Instructor and Researcher at the Anesthesia Department in the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. I am also a Reserach Affiliate at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, and a Research Collaborator at the Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines, both at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I earned a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and the Professional Title of Biochemist from the University of Santiago de Chile, and earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Chile.

My reserach interest are primarily related to the mechanisms by which general aensthetic drugs produce loss of cosnciousness:

  • PK-PD models of the effects of anesthetic drugs on cortical dynamics.

  • Role of thalamocortical circuits in loss and recovery of consciousness.

  • Effects of anesthetic drugs on the network dynamics of cortical neurons.

  • Non-pharmacological approches for modulation of arousal states.
