Research Narrative
Dr. Deborah Friedman received her PDin clinical psychology from Loyola University Chicago in 2005 and then completed a two-year NIMH-funded clinical research fellowship in pediatric health psychology at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
She is a staff psychologist in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and an assistant professor of psychology (psychiatry) at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Friedman has particular expertise in pediatric behavioral medicine and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and provides outpatient care within the MGH Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic.
She is funded via the CFF Mental Health Coordinator grant to implement mental health guidelines and provide consultation/liaison to the MGH Cystic Fibrosis Center (pediatric and adult).
Dr. Friedman also collaborates on a CFF-funded research project to develop a CF-specific palliative care program, and has received funding from CFFT and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to develop and pilot a CF-specific CBT-based intervention for the prevention of depression and anxiety in adults coping with CF. Dr. Friedman also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric Psychology.
