The Massachusetts General Hospital Human Pancreatic Islet/Cell Isolation and Transplantaion Laboratory is a specialized service facility providing services for research and clinical care use, and the only lab in New England that practices the FDA-approved current Good Manufacture Procedure (cGMP) standards. We are one of few active laboratories in the United States that collaborates within the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Consortium of Islet Transplantation (CIT) and its affiliates to advance clinical islet transplantation from an experimental to a standard care procedure. In addition, we are conducting clinical trials to treat end-stage liver failure through the transplantation of hepatocytes. We also are very actively exploring immunotolerance strategies in nonhuman primate models to advance allogenic islet transplantation and stem cell derived beta cells preclinical and clinical studies.
