Dr. Guastaldi's specialization is in the field of OMFS, employing different biomaterials for biomedical applications (titanium and titanium alloys, ceramics, polymers), bone tissue regeneration, and cartilage tissue engineering. His research applies novel and innovative materials, technologies, and approaches to tissue engineering bone and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) regeneration of congenital and acquired oral and maxillofacial defects to improve clinical outcomes. He conducts fundamental and translational research in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. His studies at the SBRC, MGH focus on bone tissue engineering for the repair/regeneration of the jaws and tissue engineering of the TMJ.
