Dr. Fernando Guastaldi received his DDS in 2006 from the Dental School of Ribeirão Preto in Brazil. He is a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery and earned a Master of Science in 2010 and a PhD in 2013 in oral and maxillofacial surgery from the Dental School of Araçatuba in Brazil. He was a visiting scholar in the Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2012. He completed two postdoctoral research fellowships, the first at the Dental School of Araraquara in Brazil from 2014 to 2017 and the second at the Skeletal Biology Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2017 to 2019.
Dr. Guastaldi is an assistant professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and director of the Skeletal Biology Research Center in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, at Massachusetts General Hospital. His work bridges clinical surgery, biomaterials science, translational research and regenerative medicine, with a focus on bone and cartilage tissue engineering.
Dr. Guastaldi has published peer-reviewed articles on bone tissue engineering, temporomandibular joint regeneration and artificial intelligence. He is an editor of Bone Tissue Engineering: Bench to Bedside Using 3D Printing (Springer, 2022).
