Trained as both a physician and a basic research scientist, Dr. Yuyu Song has developed multifaceted research projects on adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Her training in molecular and cellular neuroscience established expertise in the following areas: 1) specializations of the neuronal cytoskeleton that are essential for normal neuronal structure and function; 2) molecular mechanisms for pathogenesis in neurodegeneration that involve protein misfolding, axonal trafficking, and synaptic transmission; 3) innovative therapeutic approaches targeting kinases, phosphatases, and molecular chaperones; and 4) advanced imaging techniques for single-molecule tracking and high-content imaging for drug screen.
