Dr. J. Shannon Swan joined the MGH Institute for Technology Assessment and the MGH Department of Radiology in the fall of 2003. He has extensive prior grant funded experience, which began at the University of Wisconsin with collaborative work on time-resolved magnetic resonance angiography techniques. He subsequently obtained training in health services research and quality of life measurement within the General Electric Radiology Research/Association of University Radiologists Academic Fellowship. He has had multiple grants from The National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.  His major current interest is in the psychometrics of health utility indices using structural equation modeling and related techniques, in addition to more traditional scaling methods including multiattribute utility theory. He is currently funded in the Cunningham Lab at the MGH ITA, where he is involved in the construction of a quality of life index for thyroid cancer.
