development of novel molecular imaging techniques; diagnostics; early cancer detection; global health; interventional radiology; pk/pd imaging of new therapeutic drugs; point-of-care sensing and systems analysis; specific examples: exosome research immunoimaging; tools for early disease detection; translational research and clinical trials The Weissleder group develops molecular technologies for noninvasive imaging of cellular function, and uses these technologies to study basic human biology and create next generation diagnostics and therapeutics. Many important biological processes occur deep inside our body. Their study requires new technologies to understand function at the single cell level. To develop such technologies, he pursues fundamental advances in chemistry, molecular engineering, bioengineering and modeling. His work also takes advantage of imaging tissues and cells obtained by minimally invasive image guided interventions. His primary interests are in cancer and in inflammation. His work on imaging, nanomaterials and miniaturized sensing technologies has led to a number of new technologies and advanced clinical trials. Dr. Weissleder is currently the principal investigator of several National Institute of Health grants and consortia. He has published over 960 publications (h-index of 202) in peer reviewed journals and has authored several textbooks.
