Research Narrative
As a clinician and researcher in Neuro-Oncology my focus is on the care of patients with brain metastases and neurological complications of cancer and chemotherapy, as well as primary brain tumors. I have established a Multidisciplinary Clinic for Central Nervous System (CNS) Metastases at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. The aim of this clinic is to offer interdisciplinary expertise to patients with brain metastases incorporating radiation therapy as well as surgical and medical approaches. The staff therefore encompasses a radiation oncologist as well as a neurosurgeon and draws from a wide patient population at MGH. The joint clinic allows for evaluation and coordinated care of patients with complex needs and morbidities and represents a unique referral center within the New England area.
As part of the mission of the CNS Metastasis clinic, I am committed to developing clinical trials testing novel chemotherapeutics and molecular targeted agents in patients with brain metastases from a variety of primary tumor types. I am the PI on a recently NIH-funded Phase I/II trial of an angiogenesis inhibitor given together with radiation therapy in patients with brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer. I also serve as the MGH site PI on two multicenter phase II studies for recurrent brain metastases in patients with lung and breast cancer.
