I received my medical degree and biostatistical training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Mailman School of Public Health. I am the Director of Onconephrology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. I currently hold a faculty appointment at MGH in the Division of Nephrology with 75% of my time dedicated to research and I maintain an active clinical presence with 25% clinical effort split between the MGH Bigelow service, inpatient renal consults, and an outpatient clinic at MGH Renal Associates.

My lab is focused on three areas.

1. Onconephrology - the study of how cancer and cancer therapies affect kidney function, with a particular focus on the side effects of cancer immunotherapy.
2. Viruses and the kidney -  determining the impact and mechanism of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and COVID-19 on the progression of chronic kidney disease.
3. Clinical Trials in glomerulonephritis (IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, MGPN, monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance).

I have focused on the safety and efficacy of novel antivirals and cancer therapies in patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease on dialysis. I conduct clinical trials and longitudinal observational pharmaco-epi studies in patients with kidney disease. I conduct translational investigation to better understand the mechanism of acute interstitial nephritis triggered by immune checkpoint inhibitors for cancer. I study the impact of sarcopenia (muscle loss) on estimates of kidney function in patients with cancer.
