Dr. Aleksandra Stankovic is the Founding Director of the Center for Space Medicine Research (CSMR). The mission of the CSMR is to develop biomedical solutions to keep humans safe and healthy in long-duration spaceflight, and to translate innovations from the space environment into novel patient care solutions on Earth.

She also directs the Human Performance Lab. Her group’s work promotes high-level human performance in extreme environments through behavioral health support and improved training, teaming, and cooperation between humans and technology systems. Sandra has conducted extensive research in remote and resource-limited locations, including spaceflight analogs and Antarctic research stations, and has worked with pilots, first responders, and top athletes to help them perform their best in extreme conditions.

Sandra is an active scuba diver, private pilot, and volunteer EMT. She is passionate about education and hopes her research will help inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators.
