Research Narrative
The Massachusetts General Hospital Pancreatic Islet Isolation Laboratory is a specialized service facility providing services for research and clinical care use, and the only lab in New England that practices the FDA-approved current Good Manufacture Procedure (cGMP) standards. We are one of few active laboratories in the United States that collaborates within the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Consortium of Islet Transplantation (CIT) and its affiliates to advance clinical islet transplantation from an experimental to a standard care procedure. We also are very actively exploring immunotolerance strategies in nonhuman primate models to advance allogenic islet transplantation and stem cell derived beta cells preclinical studies.
