Dr. Qadan completed a doctoral (PhD) degree in the study of immunologic mechanisms that are important in the development of infection following surgery. Dr. Qadan’s research focuses on the tumor microenvironment in the treatment of pancreas cancer. Pancreas cancer is a highly resilient tumor and by influencing the environment and character of the tumor, early data suggests that the disease may be rendered more susceptible to treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. He is currently involved in studying novel agents in this field.

In addition, Dr. Qadan is interested in clinical outcomes health services research that focuses on methods to collect, analyze, and improve outcomes related to cancer surgery at the National level. He conducts his outcomes research in collaboration with the Codman Center for Clinical Effectiveness in Surgery.

Finally, Dr. Qadan is an active investigator in high impact clinical trials at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Qadan is actively involved in many National societies including the AHPBA, SSO, SSAT, American Liver Foundation, and several others. He currently holds active leadership roles in several organizations and has over 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles in high impact surgical journals, as well as several book chapters and scientific abstracts.
