Dr. Babu is an ALS and neuromuscular neurologist at the Sean M Healey and AMG Center for ALS at MGH.
Her clinical training and background include neurology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio and two fellowships at the MassGeneral Brigham/Harvard Medical School programs in neuromuscular medicine and neurodegenerative disorders (focused on ALS clinical research). She has completed Masters in Public Health (University of Maryland School of Public Health) and Clinical and Translational Research Academy and a 2-year Master's equivalent program (Harvard Medical school). She has secured competitive ALS research funding from NIH, prestigious foundations and philanthropic support from ALS patients and families. She collaborates with other academic researchers within the Harvard system as well as internationally and with pharma industry for ALS clinical research projects. Suma Babu's Publications .
Her clinical career is focused on improving clinical outcomes for patients with ALS, motor neuron diseases and neuromuscular diseases. Her clinical research is centered around accelerating treatment and imaging biomarker discoveries for patients with ALS and other motor neuron diseases. As a principal investigator or multiple PI, she has led several multi site clinical trials and expanded access programs. She leads as the MGH Site PI for industry sponsored multi-site gene therapy and gene targetted treatment trials in ALS.
