Dr. Barmettler is the Director of the MGH Program in Primary and Secondary Immune Deficiency. She has clinical and research expertise in primary and secondary immunodeficiency. Her research is focused on improving the understanding of underlying immune mechanisms and the quality of patient care for patients with immune deficiencies. She is also highly involved in education, with projects in anaphylaxis recognition and management, as well as chemotherapy desensitization. 

Dr. Barmettler graduated with honors from Amherst College with a BA in Biology and Music. She studied medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical school, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and completed her fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Allergy and Immunology. She received her MPH degree from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
