Dr. Whalen's laboratory investigates causes and treatments for acute brain injury in children with mouse models and molecular and cell biology. The laboratory studies mechanisms of concussion, brain contusion, and intracerebral hemorrhage (a type of stroke) in pediatric and adult models. We focus on how inflammation drives neurological outcome in these models in order to discover new treatments to improve neurological outcome in children and adults with brain injury.
