Dr. Alexandra Touroutoglou specializes in brain imaging and non-invasive brain stimulation in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. She leads clinical trials with innovative personalized treatments to mitigate cognitive symptoms in dementia. In 2016, her team was among the first research groups to identify superagers, a remarkable group of older adults with brains that refuse to age. Recently, she is using insights from superagers to develop brain stimulation treatments for memory decline in Alzheimer’s disease. She has an international reputation and won numerous awards for her work. Her findings have featured nationally and internatinally by BBC, Huffington Post, The New York Times,The World Economic Forum, The Times, UK, Farmaci Halsa (Sweden), Kathimerini (Greece), Gazeta (Russia), Landbote (Switzerland), Luzerner, Zeitung (Germany). She has been featured at Harvard Gazette, NPR, Alzoforum, CNBC Make it, How We're Wired, The Bertarelli Foundation, Exploring the Future of Brain Sciences Research Renaissance, Karen Toffler Charitable Trust. In 2023, she was invited at the United Nations to give a talk on superagers to attendees from all around the world. 

Dr. Touroutoglou has served on review committees at Harvard Catalyst and National Institute of Health (NIH) panels, Israel Science Foundation, Canadian Institute of Health. In 2025, she was offered an appointment as Federal Advisory Committee member at the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
