Academically, Dr. Jellinek has written or co-written numerous articles and chapters on pediatric psychiatry, psychosomatic disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and the difficult parent among other topics. With Michael Murphy, Ed.D., he developed the Pediatric Symptom Checklist, which is a brief screening instrument that has been validated to help primary care pediatricians identify children with psychosocial dysfunction. Dr. Jellinek has co-edited two books and was section editor for the Handbook of General Psychiatry and the Saunders Manual of Hospital Practice. He served as Chair for Bright Futures in Practice: Mental Health supported by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, providing guidelines on mental health promotion for infants, children and adolescents.
In 1992 Dr. Jellinek was named as Vice President of Ambulatory Services at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). In 1996 he was named Senior Vice President for Administration and had responsibility for hospital wide operations, space planning and the Departments of Radiology, Pathology and Pharmacy. Most recently he was Interim President and then (2001) named President of Newton Wellesley Hospital, a 240 bed acute care hospital and, along with MGH, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and North Shore Medical Center, a member of the Partners HealthCare System.
