Research Narrative
Genome editing technologies offer hope for the correction of disorders that are the result of mutations in a patient’s DNA. Dr. Kleinstiver's research group pursues protein engineering strategies to improve important properties of CRISPR genome editing enzymes (including their activities, specificities, and targeting ranges, etc.), to develop new genome editing methods, and also explores the feasibility of applying these engineered technologies for the treatment of genetic diseases.
Dr. Kleinstiver is a Principal Investigator in the Center for Genomic Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS).
Research in the Kleinstiver laboratory is supported by an NIH DP2 New Innovator Award, as a co-PI/co-I on other NIH awards, an MGH Research Scholar Award, an MGH ECOR Howard M. Goodman Award, CHDI, the Blavatnik Foundation, the Gilbert Foundation, and Angea Biotherapeutics.
